Hey, I just started learning poi yesterday, and when my friend showed me how I learned a 3 beat weave and butterfly. Today I learned the reverse 3 beat weave and threading the needle. My friend says thats really quick but it seems easy enough, is that unheard of?

No. Read any educational psych literature and it'll tell you everyone learns at different rates. For some the basics take a while to learn and then the more advanced stuff fits into place... for some people they learn the basics really easily, but the advanced stuff ties their head in knots. If you enjoy it, it doesnt matter the rate at which you pick it up.

And by the way, there are numerous threads that are along these lines... you really should do a search before cracking open a new thread...

Also most people will learn alot faster when they have a real live teacher to teach them rather than teaching themselves using tutorials.

Yeah, my girlfriend after a week had antispin basics, spiral wraps as well as all the regular stuff pretty well down... but then again, she had a WONDERFUL teacher. ^_^

yeah, I first learned poi at castlefest this year, and there were teachers there, so with them I picked up a lot. now, I just have tutorials and it's a lot more tricky...
I started learning the weaver yesterday, and it goes really well with each hand apart, but when I put both together I completely mess up... >>

how far you go has nothing to do with distance.
with time at most.
