Picture Clipping

The text on this picture of a lass doing poi, reads: "Whirl of a time: festivalgoer Tanya Osmond puts on a show of her own at Womad with a novelty streamer, known as a poipois, which were on sale."

Funny! We're now all novelty streamer whirlers!

Anyone know this Tanya Osmond? She can't spin, but not bad looking!

By the way, glass spotted this and got me to post it. I think he may be a closet Telegraph reader!

I heard somewhere - not on HOP but some other random sight that Poi are actually called Poipoi on acount of there being two. Come to think of it, it was my friend who used to live in NZ.

Out of interest how do you know she can't spin?
Looks like a competent corkscrewer to me...

I'm sure I've heard here that the plural of poi is poi. And it'd be poies, unless Maori is similar to Indonesian where plurals are denoted by the singular being repeated (bus bus = buses).

I summerized that she was a beginner because the position of both poi and the tail hint that a figure of eight is the desired move. However the position of the hands looks like the type of hand movement I've seen a hundred times on beginners doing their first equal time figure of eights, very seperated in order to stop the poi crashing. And the look on her face is a classic beginner look, one eye on each poi.

And the chances are the journos saw a pretty blonde girl, who looks like a telegraph reader's daughter, and took the snap. If you notice most people tend to take photos of girls spinning. Maybe something to do with sex, I dunno.

She may however be the best spinner in the world, and be on her way over to my house now to slap me.

I'm rambling....

In the countryside I bet with your red socks, knobbly stick, bobble hat, kagool and trusty map and compass.
Oh, and you must have a laptop aswell to be here whilst rambling.
Anywhere nice?

Ah! Map! Knew I forgot something! Not too sure where I am, but there's thorns and thistle everywhere. Maybe I should have bought that GPS phone instead of the GPRS phone! If I see a herd of migrating bufalo I'll just follow them and hopefully they'll lead me through a convenient rift in space time to a nice steak house or something where I can call a cab home...

That mistry girl Tanya Osmond, might be a newbie round here in which case you'll be having some apologising to do.

you snot you cant say from one instant photo that shes can't spin, you meany.

Now what I think has happened here is that our nice mr dom has got jelous because tanya has better blonde hair that dom has, and she clearly has better CONDITIONER. (he loves his conditioner) Doms gone red with blonde envy.

in all honesty, how did everyone respond to the first time we saw a COL video? i am ashamed of my thankfully halted firetwirler nitpicking. What the hell wos i thinking in picking flaws in others? it's wierd how many of my fire mates tend toward it - seeing nice people pick and pick. It's just another wierd facet of f'wirling.
like alot of hobbies..
ya practice, ya practice, and ya end up expecting perfeckshun.
In this regard I am glad i have shed that part of my inner child!
If ya only concentrate on the positives of f'wirling (or for that matter, realtionships, jobs, mattress soiling), then it'll keep fun for ya for a looong loong time!
i looooooooooooooove f'wirling!

It was a day for screaming at inanimate objects.

What this calls for is a special mix of psychology and extreme violence...

How does she get all those flaggy things to stand up like that? No wonder she's not concentrating so much on the poi with all that to do too.

Cantus, don't you get flags fluttering in the wind appearing whenever you spin?
