For true beginners, we suggest using our Sales Assistant, and by just ticking a few boxes we will come up with what we think you should consider.

Usually, stick to medium-sized fire heads. If you are a small frame or new to fire the small-sized fire heads will be better. With extra sizeable heavy Fire Poi, you will need arms like Thor to spin.

Use the image below to get your ideal Poi Length. We use S = short, M = medium, and L = long to help select length. It can be shorter, or you can have it longer, but if longer then this can limit the number of moves you can do.

We sell mainly a single loop as it gets held in several ways. For some, this is a more secure way of holding onto the Fire Poi. These are made from soft nylon and must be kept away from the flame as they will melt. We also offer silicone knob handles that are easy to grip and let go of the Poi if necessary. You can also use these to Poi, and they can have their weight changed by inserting weights inside of the knob. Being silicone they will resist catching on fire.

Never use Fire Pois attached to your wrist/hands using buckles, as you cannot easily and quickly get dropped in an emergency. You do not want to 'stop drop and roll' if the Fire Poi is still connected to you.

All our Fire Performance Equipment has KEVLAR® wicks. If you look after the wick, it can last for years. However, if you let the Fire Poi wick smolder by allowing all the fuel to be used up, the KEVLAR® wick will burn slowly and fall apart. Sunlight also degrades and darkens the color of the KEVLAR® wick gradually over time, so it is good to have wick covers when using fire props during daylight. It also stops you from getting your daytime clothes dirty from the residues on the wicks. Many people wrap tin foil over the wicks and wear colorful socks over the Fire Heads. We also sell some soft covers that can fit over some familiar KEVLAR® Fire Toys.

Because of how expensive pure KEVLAR® is, our wick also contains other aramid fibers and fabric-grade fiberglass (not the kind that itches or stabs you. After all, at HoP, we work with it all day. We sell many configurations/styles of Fire Heads.

The Medium Cathedral Style Fire Poi gives a good-sized flame medium burn time and because of it's simplicity is easy to make. It offers excellent value for money. Great for beginners and professionals. We also offer an option with a very popular beginner Fire Poi available as large and extra-large, but beware, these flames are starting to get much bigger and not for beginners. Medium Fire Poi. With the bonus of being a more fitting ball of fire with a meteor tail of flame. These sets also have a fuel compartment within the core for extending the burn time. Unfortunately, they cost a bit more than Cathedral Style Fire Poi because of the time involved in making them. Giant Monkey Fists Poi Fire Balls made from using Kevlar® Rope are available and are relatively heavy with big flames requiring you to have big, strong arms, not for the fainthearted. But wow, what a show! Weka Fire Poi is a good start for fire dancing beginners and those who prefer lighter-weight Fire Poi. These are simple designs and should last a very long time. Larger versions of the Weka Fire Poi are called Mura Fire Poi and create a flatter flame with a big appearance. Another Great value for money is Fire Poi. Snake Fire Poi has a considerable glow, so you will always need to keep them swinging. Otherwise, you will get your hands and handles burnt. Not for beginners, and they will restrict some of your tricks because of the size. Once spinning, they create great walls of flame with substantial visual appeal. Double-Headed Fire Poi and Triple-Headed Fire Poi are perfect for creating beautiful rings of flame, but again, not for beginners as the flame is closer to your hands, and you'll always need to keep them swinging. Their main strength is that they are very visually appealing. The smaller head versions are OK for most people, but the larger heads require more power and endurance to keep the Fire Poi moving. Block Fire Poi and Twista Fire Poi are a more sophisticated version of the Cathedral Fire Poi construction. A small wick woven provides a more solid fire head, and the multilayers and grooves create a larger surface area for mixing the fuel and air. This construction method means a more durable Fire Poi Set with stronger Flames. Again, like most of our sets, we have many sizes available. Lastly, the ultimate Pro 3D Death-Star Fire Poi is a large custom-made Fire Poi delicately handcrafted with multiple internal layers of thin KEVLAR® strips using a natural capillary action to feed the fuel to the soft spikes. A very long manufacturing process and the price keep this set out of the mainstream Fire Poi spinners. So proud owners will likely provide an even more unique fire dancing show. As well as an overall flame, jets appear from the spikes! The Audience will be unaware that the tips are not dangerous because of the added WOW factor for Professionals ONLY.
