more important than any "trick" to be captured in a frame by a camera,
the act of poi is more a dance/performance.
I seek to leave a lasting impression by breaking planes and incorporating dervish turns and dizzying parabolic variations.

Any advice on how to develop flow? Rather than the exercises I practice (guilty of doing most things wall-plane, through extensive practice to keep movement precise), I'd hope to some day emulate the great poi spinners I've seen (and establish my own unique style).

The obvious solution is practice, but I hit a wall when i try. How does one develop the freedom of movement to afford grace?

Practice, practice, practice. Hehe that's pretty much the only answer but if you actually want to move and turn freely around with poi you must have your hands spinning SMOOTHLY everywhere they can reach and this only comes with wrist strength and flexibility.

Also move around a lot; walk, run, jump even when doing simple moves. See if you can still keep your moves in plane while doing this.
