I went to the Manson show here in Boston last night and it was really quite good. On stage during many of the songs he had two girls who were dressed in cabaret type outfits that he did various things with.
At the end of the show a girl in the balcony lifted her shirt and her friend erm, did some stuff to her. (I will spare the detials in an effort to keep this discussion clean)
But what surprised me the most was that this elicited almost a louder cheer from the crowd than the performers did. Also, the security people expelled one girl for taking her shirt off in the middle of the concert, but did not remove the one who had done it in a more expositional way.
This got me thinking about porn, because people like to say that it is exploiting women. But isn't it just exploiting women's power over men in terms of sexuality? (that being kind of the opposite thing) And doesn't it seem like its become just a mass produced, impersonal version of prostitution?
What do you guys think?

Does there have to be exploitation? There's always gunna be people who'll pay for porn and there'll always be people who'll make it and sell it.

I know there's exceptions but I think by in large people in the industry are there to make a lot of money.

I hear what your saying about exploiting men, it's similar to cosmetics companies praying on woman selling them things to make them look like a skinny shiny broze person.

At the end of the day we all make our own decisions. Nearly all men I know don't have porn anyway, though I only read the other day that it's becoming for widespread these days.

Woman, do have a certain element of sexual power over men though on the whole and many do exploit it. This is broader than the porn industry and it's not the first thing that springs to mind.

I live in a world of infinite possibilities.

i guess by exploitation i was more referring to how porn is used than what it depicts. as in the marketing aspect of it, and what exactly the demand that they are catering to is.

and i'm also really interested in why it is that women are the sex symbols in our society to such a huge degree. i think its such a strange turnaround considering the track record of gender roles for much of the world. it reminds me of Roman theatre, ususally comdey, where the slaves are often the ones calling the shots, and it being a sort of way of getting that kind of behavior out of your system so you don't do it in the real world. so it sort of seems like its a fetish with a weird dichotomy of empowerment of the supposedly subjugated/oppressed/whatever you want to call it.
and its even more interesting that both genders buy into it. like the proliferation of girls (at least ones i've known) acting bisexual to get attention.

sorry if i'm coming off as really offensive, i don't mean to be. but its hard to know how to phrase things so as to express your opinion without offending anyone.
