If you don't spin off the excess fuel on you wicks, you risk getting a nasty burn (like the one I have on my back right now). Some sort of cruel trick of fate I guess, the ONE time I don't spin off my wicks I wacked myself in the back and my skin got a nice 2nd degree burn the size of a silver dollar. So, Please spin those wicks off before you start. I was just spinning along, mindng my own bussiness, when i noticed that i was on fire
(the hit from the wick had left fuel on my back, BAD BAD BAD) and it didn't go out quickly, so I dropped on of my poi and started slapping the fire, too late though...I got a nice "leaking" burn on my back, I'll will always spin them out after this little mistake...

Oh, and at least I don't have to worry about the blister breaking, I think slaping out the fire did that for me, ....well, look on the bright side , at least flame sterilizes...right?

Sure it has been posted here before but everyone hasn't read ALL of the past posts. Some of us only read the current topics. yea, It was preaty stupid of me, I never realy got burned like this before, of course I never wacked myself with "unspun poi" befor either. Life is a learning experience. As long as I have been spinning (10 months) I realy should have known better (hey, at least we aren't using the flaming cans of gasoline anymore!!!). Luckily all of my learning experiences so far have been "non-fatal" but I sure-as-heck am not going to try this one again. It could have been alot worse..and you know what they say "what doesn't kill you, makes you trip"I did have a safety, he was already in motion to put out the fire on my bare back, but I dropped a poi and slapped it out before he completed his reaction. So for anybody who doesn't know....spin off your excess fuel...or suffer the consequences for your lack of preventative safety measures!Thanks for the kind words, Pele. It is good to learn from your own mistakes. Unfortunatly to many people (like me) don't always learn from other people's mistakes as well. That is why we have history classes, and language and writing, ...so we don't have to keep making the same mistakes over and over again.

I was on subject at the end of my message when I said you shouldn't get on his back for not spinning off. It was his mistake and he's learned from it. Ok...here we go here we go here we go... (the song of a sword from some book i read once, it used to sing this before it went into battle).I'm amazed. Truly. I thought of all the people here who would start getting agressive with each other, it would be me and some old-school peep not people like Pele and Myst.I'm not going to back up anyone or be on "the otherside" with anyone. However, my posts are on average the longest out of everyone here. I feel Pele writes longish posts because she does have a lot of experience and knowledge.Myst, however, also has a lot of experience and knowledge, but it seems the two have different writing styles and reading styles making BB interaction likely to flare up easily.This is what happens in every family, social club, workplace and anywhere else where people gather.My hope is that Eric has just had a bad day (as we all do) and will continue to contribute to the board as usual. Yea, I sleep on my back...that isn't the worst part though. I have to sit in chairs a lot in class, driving my truck, etc. And that darn plasma keeps leaking through and making my shirt stick to my back, then I have to peel it off. But even that is not the worst part. I REALLY need a back massage right now (like REALLY bad, cause I got allot of new muscle developing from all the BTB moves I have been learning lately) and I can't give myself a back massage (using a doorway, or the edge of a wall, or other vertical, stationary object) without making the burn wound worse.

I'm sorry Pele, It's not you I was mad at, reading over again, It's your man, the whipping boy. That's odd that I'm not the only one that saw that as you. When Malcolm said you didn't erase anything, I read over again and again looking for where your post had gone and then I read the whipping boys post and nearly fell out of my chair. Thanks Myst. I appreciate the apology and know how humbling it can be. It was big of you. Sorry if I came down on you hard. And for the record, this past weekend I talked with PWB about toning things down **before** he posts.Santanatwo, to stop that whole stick to the shirt thing, you might want to cover the burn with medical gauze and sports tape, or I think Band-aide brand has really large patch bandages with out the plastic coating. It will help keep them from healing into your clothes but still allow ai to it to keep it dried out. Have you tried a hot bath or having someone rub warm oil into your muscles? Myst - Now I understand, it seems we've had a classic "Three's Company" misundertsanding that all gets resolved in the end.I'll make a few excuses for Whipping Boy, as my partner is also very concerned and worried about a lot of what I do. I think it was his worry for Pele, surfacing at the wrong time and the wrong place, combined with the name confusion that began all of this.No-one has strong feelings about things without reason, and as a non-firie, Whipping Boy is probably more realistic about the dangers we expose ourselves too.No matter how many times we've done things safely, it only takes that once for someone to die or get horribly disfigured, so when its someone you care about doing these things, I know the emotions can get undertsandably high. And rightly so too.Perhaps you'd like to edit your message talking about the deleted post, as I'm worried that another misunderstanding might happen between a reader and yourself.It's your choice, I'll leave it up to you.And welcome back to happy HoP family.
