Great site, huge amount of information and friendly people. Well done, just felt it should be said.

Now to the problem. I've been doing poi for about a week now with sockballs-on-string I think it's time to get a real set, any recomendations please? I did try to look for the beginner's section of the shop but it seems to have disappeared so any help pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand and I can beat the world into submission.

I second what Molly said. Sock poi are the greatest for learning.

1) Get 2 of the longest socks you can find.

2) Put a tennis ball in each one.

Voila, great pair of sock poi. You can tie a knot in the open end for easy grip and you can also cut a slit in the tennis balls and add some loose change to increase the weight.

Ive been spinning for over a year and I still use my sock poi more than anything (including fire).

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.

I've never bought a set of poi- never will.

I make my own, of various types, but always find myself going back to the socks.

Sock poi are proper poi, if you want to get into releases and one hand stuff they'll be better than anything with finger loops.

I now have the material to finally make my first set of cone poi. I've been using lycra socks for ages now and they are great.

As an aside to OWD or anyone else. The reason I am dying (for ages) to make some out of material is that I don't find socks good for releases as they tend to spring and dissappear. Is that just me?

I live in a world of infinite possibilities.

maybe i'm just a bit too southern and yocal - but i really don't like sock poi. eek

i learnt on poi with tails, and it didn't do me any harm, and they're much prettier (imho). i'm starting a crusade against socks because i think they just look yuck - and they get dirty really quick too!

so there.

but they don't make the flappyflappy noise, which is a downside

i like my twirling pretty and flappy happy.

DOWN WITH SOCKS!!! stripes are good, but there's just no substitute for neon ribbons for circle making.

form were i stand there is three main shoices for you interms of poi and all other fall into sub cats of these, excluding fire poi.

Tailed
- good for moves when you need ppl to see your planes and such

sock
- ace for learning tricks, and smooth as you like, mainly gym or long socks witha sperical weight in teh base

cone
- a lil more hardwareing and feel a lil better than socks to me, a triangle of fabric sown along the edge to form a cone and then tied at the bottom, weighed in the same ways as sock poi.

everything else is just copies of these, i doo agree with both dave and bender in diff ways, if you nat one hand stuff, and meteror crossover then fingerless are good, if you wnat lots of tick finger loops can help for grip :S

its all up to you

ps beginers section to shop

laterdays
