Hello wave

Name: Molly (or Caro in a different world)

Age: 24, but it's my silver jubilee soon smile

Location: Lovely Edinburgh, oh it says that over there... But born and bred a Londoner.

Occupation: PhD student (entymology and bacteriology - ie. mash flies and see what's going on in their bellies. mmmm.) Oh, and part-time Queen.

Toys: BLUEBELL the most gorgeous blue blue tech ubblove Tulip my beautiful contact stick, poi and a sadly neglected devilstick. I think it had angel sticks with it somewhere (firey handsticks as well as a firey devilstick) but haven't played with them for so long.... and of course, young molly mole, who aspires to great juggling prowess, but is hampered by the shortness of her paws and the complete absence of the ability to hold anything with just one paw. She is the little furry blur that is my avatar, in her christmas incarnation as the mole of war.

Hobbies: Beltane Fire Society, the slack hippy calendar of my life. Dancing, most especially swing. contact girl is the way forward, if only I could get round the friction burns. Gardening, herbs and vegetables mostly. There's only so much you can do with a daffodil. Sewing stuff, costumery especially. Camping, brewing, jam and CAKE ubblove

Favourite colour (before anyone asks... you know who you are):

blue but yes pink is fine and dandy, it even tried to take over my world for a week in August when my little niece was born smile

um, that'll do I think...

oh one more thing,

I had the immense pleasure of meeting quite a few HoP-folk round and about this summer and if they are anything to go by, you are all beautiful lovely people hug

what a fabby place ubblove

now, tea and cake all round and cushions aplenty

hug

and as for mole-human hybrids I think the mole community would turn their noses up at being so closely associated with such a slack species.
no good

and My time would be better spent introducing nanomole technology to combat trypanosomiasis (another cool word for you Ado-PPPPP).

Hee hee... I'm stupid. I kept thinking "Nanomole... nanomole... that really sounds like a real thing... why does it keep ringing a bell?!"

So I googled it.

Of course it is. It's a billionth of a mole. Or 6.0x10^14 particles.

Duh. It's an amount.

A home-made solid-phase sequencer operating at the nanomole level.

call yourself a chemist?

now the mole, nano or otherwise, when presented with a trypanosome will take it by the flagellum, like so, and wallop wallop the tryp's head onto any nearby solid surface. The tryp is walloped by the flagellum until death and a whole disease eradicated. Of course, getting the nanomoles to spread throughout Africa is a little more tricky. They would probably insist on a decent retirement scheme and air conditioned burrows not to mention relocation expenses. But the nanomole is Very Small so this wouldn't be So much of a problem. Moles are clever wee things smile

And how big is it?

Remember, you'd need 1000 nanomoles to stand on top of each other to have the length of 400 nanometers. That means that 1000 nanomoles would still be able to fit underneath a single wavelength of light.

I really think you're looking for picomoles. wink

Yeah... even if your mole was half a meter big, once you shrunk it to a nanometer it'd still be smaller than the largest atom.

Atoms range from 0.1-0.5 nm. smile

but they're SO picky!

tryps are about 50 by 12 microns, so perhaps the nanomoles are just 100000 nanometres cos they like big numers and cool names

and don't you go making assumptions about my nano-talpinology. Nanomoles (layterm) does not infer an unhealthy connection with Moles. Unless the mole in question happened to be a chemist. OK?

all the chocolate raisins you can stuff in your mouth for you beautiful! If you could make them alcoholic and flammable it could be this year's EJC challenge! (you Will be there won't you won't you, you will, go on)

hug kiss

woefully lacking in handstands, but have collected some nice data about siderophore production
it isn't really a fair trade off is it? *sigh*

still, in not SO long (touch wood) DR molly will get to be an undiluted hippy for a bit again and spend her time upside down in foreign countries (though probably not the upside down ones) smile - you have to turn your head the other way up to gain the full effect from that last smilie

love you lots
