This space is for all those funksters busy improving their technique by learning new moves - made-up or traditional.

Tell us all about it! We love hearing about our fellow poiers/staffies/misc. toyers succeeding with new things biggrin

It's just hard to keep up with it all sometimes, so if we keep it together you'll be certain to get a little feedback.

here a pat on the back in advance from me

grin Those are fun.

Damn, we really need to meet. Tell me if you are going to the next Fire in the Park, and I will make the effort to get there.

OK for sure. Just shoot me a PM when you know when the next one is. My LED ninja poi arrived yesterday so I'm almost certain that I'll be attending. Ninja poi are much less forgiving than my sock poi haha but SO much fun! grin

I would probably have gone with flowlights if I had the money (ended up getting the ninjas for a discounted rate). +'s of ninja poi for me so far: brightness, range of colour combinations, weight. -'s: rubber collision-dampening rings (not great for spiral wraps).

Hybrid wall plane flowers, anti-spin opposite direction flowers (in wall and wheel plane), turning with anti spin flowers, and a body tracing fountain. smile

Also, I am on Dave Statik's 3D tutorial 5 right now. My 3D is getting pretty decent. ^^

Question everything.

I learned 3 beat waist wraps yesterday! It's so easy. I have no idea why it took me so long.

I need either a set of softer poi or a bionic knee before I continue practicing meltdowns. OUCH. lol

Since they're quite simple, I may have invented(?) thigh wraps and foot wraps.

They are quite odd, but they feel and look so good!

I was working on my 2-beat weaves last night (I've only been at this for 3 days!) and I somehow managed to go into a 2-beat weave and come out crossing forward same-time. I was then able to work this so that I could go into a 2-beat weave, start doing crosses, then back into a weave before I pulled out back into split-time. Wasn't entirely planned but ight keep it in mind for changing modes later on.

i'll be the painful rookie here. my big project right now is getting my turns smooth. pet projects are improving isolations and wraps.

i never appreciated how much time and effort you can spend on turning when you really want to nail it consistently.

Fluidity.

Sam (Sam Labonte), by time flies, do you mean a floating triquettra?

Just curious, I'm always on the lookout for new moves.

Auspoiboy, I guess it is just remembering which hand follows which. To me, it was just one of those things that clicked into place, though my rhythm still need some smoothing out out my left side. I understand what you are talking about.

Just figured out 3beat on wall plane, windmill and fountain one right after another.

Now to start introducing turns with them! smile smile

Good! Turns will really free you, being able to turn, is like learning how to ride a bike: liberating and essential.

I've been spinning for 3 days now and I just learned my first combo! I'm actually so excited to get my LED poi in the mail so i can see it. It's a 3 beat weave into a spiral wrap into a reverse 3 beat weave then i do a 180 and repeat. it was so awesome when i first did it. I honestly felt on top of the world lol.

I totally agree! learn something but don't stay with it too long. start to transition it or mess with it in some way. I read an article about how it's possibly not helpful to practice tricks you know over and over without changing it in some way. food for thought! :)
