hrm, frustrating no new moves can be, yes.

It takes me a very long time to get new moves, but in the interim, it's a great opportunity to hone your flow - get everything moving so smoothly and develop some new transitions... new moves can often come with new transitions - particularly with staff.

ahh, the flow and the spirit it is all about, yes.

You've always got 56+ wraps to learn.

Plus, make sure you can do every move forwards, backwards, left handed, right handed, clockwise, counterclockwise, and behind the back.

I'm not sure what level you're at but you can always work on throws. Or work your footwork. Or choreograph to exact beats of music.

All else fails, buy the sage video. That aught to keep you busy for a while.

Tried between the legs (poi) moves? There's plenty of variation in that, should keep you busy for a while.
Also, try little things like splitting weaves (from a weave, move your arms so they are just over a chains length apart, do an extra circle and then go back into a weave). They look nice, and add a bit of variety to a routine.

If you're not confused, you're not thinking about things hard enough.

I understand the frustration, grrrr.

Simple move can be effective if they flow. Try writing down all the moves you know well, so you can plan a good routine. You can add to the routine as you progress. I know that's something I need to do.

Believe me, my move descriptions suck. Also, you don't need fire to practice.

try rolls. I learned them the other day and they're fun. loads of room for variation too, as I'm now finding out.

also try doing a routine where you never do two cycles of any move in a row. just keep switching, switching, switching. it challenges the smoothness of your transitions and makes for a realllly captivating performance if you can keep it up. it's tough not to relapse into doing a move a few times before doing the next.

deary me it's easier than joo think, dude. you get more moves when you practice more. more chi! train harder!

from me experience, when you train earnestly for a mad trick, other tricks are accidentally 'discovered'. Never let a nasty pasty declare their 'ownership' of any new tricks, cus they are insecure at best.

no, wot u need to do is wash ur computer and dust the inside of your head

ray, if firetwirling skillz was a donkey, the knowledge of new skillz would be the head, the time spent practicing be the body, and the enthusiasm that seeing and thinking of fire be the hairy legs that support it all.

don't hobble poor donkey! exercise his legs, and his body will grow.
good luck ray!

I agree with bender, and ill add that its a good idea to try things that definatly wont work. from the impoasble comes the merely unprobible, the seed of new tricks.

get into the wibbly wobbily world of contact staff. its hard and sore and fun fun fun.
