Posted: Check out this article in Wired magazine, about the vapore capillary-action pump. No moving parts, and it feeds a supply of liquid and atomizes it. Stick one (or several) of these on a small fuel bottle and you've got a replacement for a standard wick.
Could be very cool, one of these days--very little weight apart from the fuel, and in theory, you should be able to control flame size, burn time, etc, very precisely. I probably won't be experimenting with these anytime real soon, but one of these days, maybe.

Posted: Veeery interesting,
another possibiltity is to have a cluster of fuel containers in a rose pattern, each one with a different fuel or coloured fuel mix in it, a small programmable controller could then give you coured flame sequences as you spin.

Or, you could have the controller linked to an accellerometer so that the colour of the flame changes as the velocity of the poi head increases.
Hmmm, indeedy yes

Take a simple idea that will probably work, and make it so complicated that it's bound to stuff up...
(Intersting idea Adam, I look forward to seeing where this goes in other applications as well)

Posted: Really Charles, things rarely "stuff up" in my exprience, they just explode in your face Thats why crowds love us; lots of skill and lots of sexy dangerous FIRE
Besides if things weren't made more complex or if we were afraid of stuffing things up, we'd still be wearing furs and poking at fires with sticks, instead of spinning it 'round our heads like the crazed pyromaniac monkeys that we are....
