Hey dude
I am part of a kinda semi-professional outfit (well a junior member anyway wink ) called highly Flammable in Dunedin, NZ
We hire ourselves out a fair bit - mostly to the local student bar for when cool gigs are on (eg Salmonella Dub), but we have done some other stuff too, like a coupla fashion shows, cultural events etc. and all going well we will be performing at a Super 12 rugby game at the end of April (yeehah!)
Definitely worth a go in my opinion, the rush from performing in front of heaps of people is great, well even if heaps of people is just a bunch of amped-up pub-goers it is still cool.............our club is non-profit (all the earnings go back into buying toys, workshops etc.) but it is till a wicked chance to do stuff for free and make the world a better more flamey place biggrin

Hey there - I run a little group called Burnt Toast. We've been booked for a load of different gigs: weddings, festivals, student balls, nightclubs etc etc.
We're at www.hugbubble.co.uk

that's it! It finally just happened.

after being in a slump for over a year, I've just been re-inspired by Knoxious' troupe website. I used to consider myself one of the better performers in Sydney, but it's been so long and I'm so out of form.... whatsmore, it seems that fire shows really have developed a whole heap since I was doing them a couple of years ago.

Anyone wanna start a really professional troupe in sydney with me? skill level has to be better than mine to be a part of it though.... (shouldn't be too hard).

Um... In my opinion, you really shouldn't be able to call yourself a performance troupe if no one in your crew can do a weave. I don't care WHERE you are!

Here are some US-based fire troupes: FirePixie/Sintillation(2 names, but basically the same people), Futuretrybe, Nocturnal Sunshine, Xeno, Infinite Kaos, Ignis Devoco, Pyrosutra (Seattle and LA), FlamChen, Wildfire Entertainment, Tantien

Ignis Devoco

Cabiri

Flam Chen

Fyrae

Pyromorph

Baltimore Califaction (used to at least)

Pyrosutra

Pyrotechnique

Ohio Burn Unit (I have to say I personally hate any name that relates to injury. It is bad advertising in my book)

Fireworks Dance Co.

Incendium (haven't heard from them in awhile)

TePooka Too

Pele's Element

SunWorks

Icarus

Molten Art

Pheonix Fire Tribe

Cult de Fue

Cirque du Flambe

Fuego Cirkus

Crispy Family Circus/Extreme Performers

Thermogenesis (used to, not sure now)

Salamander

Dragon Breath Group Int'l

Davy has a group in Canada, but I forgot their name.

....and those are off the top of my head, not inlcuding those already mentioned.

If I were to look up the list I have I could probably add another 50 names to the list easily.

Almost every group has at least 3 members, that I know of, some have many *many* more. Several travel globally. Most of these do so much more than the fire on this site..including aerial hoops with fire, clown skills with fire, specialized dance and theater training, etc...some really cool stuff.

They are also based all over the world.

In other words, yup....they exsist, en masse.

try again kid, there are performance companies that use nothing but hula hoops, fire eating/breathing, or fans, etc..

eek eek eek YES! That means they call themselves a fire performance troupe and they don't perform with poi!! eek I suppose that doesn't make them a real performance troupe tho rite rolleyes

You think they'd let me immigrate? I bet Mand could. She's pretty good, and ...quite sexy. ubblove

Mind you, I'm a part of a couple of troupes out here...they probably won't like it if I up and moved. They know I'm a wanderer, though.

Just so you know. The name Tantien is dead. (don't ask. now a name only used for our open audition halloween shows)

Now we are called Sangre del Sol -Myself, Sage, and Zarah, from Tantien, and some more fire and belly dancers.. still haven't gotten around to updating the website though...

Now for the real question... Are any of these performance troupes hiring? Being a performer in a real show is a dream of mine.

here's the REAL answer...
don't rely on anybody else, cause in the end you have to take care of yourself.
practice every day and make it your passion and get your stuff together and troupes will come to YOU for gigs.

And theyll know about me how?

Got the practicing part down though. I really dont rely on anyone in this sense, I just dont know any other spinners besides myself so getting into the "fire scene" is a bit tough.

Thanks for the tip Pele. Checked their site and says they're doing auditions on the 11th which is a bit too early for me. They also want performance experience and dance and theatre skills. Neither of which I have. Methinks I gotta start a bit smaller.

That is what most professional companies want. I hate to break it to you Icon. You might want to look into an apprenticeship, or travelling to study with other groups, it helps.
I think one of the keys to actually being a true performer is to travel. It is inspiring. It really expands your knowledge and regime. And, it gets your name out there.

Good luck!

that's why i said what i said... if you are a one man, walking, dancing, performing GOD, then anyone you talk to will hire you on the spot. take some theatre classes, take some dance classes, work out, get a show together. and then travel and perform as many times as you can. perform even more in your town and build up a fan base. performing is so much more than just being able to spin. it takes years to learn how to be a great performer, don't wait on somebody else to hire you and show you how. or study as an apprentice, same difference.

Study as an apprentice? You mean there are actually people who do that with fire spinning? I would love to be an apprentice (I think, though not 100% sure what one is ubblol )!

What I would need is to basically join a fire troupe, live and practice with them for a while, and it probably wouldnt take long before I could perform with them.

Anyone need an apprentice? biggrin
