MON, NOV 1 – Featured Fire Spinner at Dia de Los Muertos Arts Festival

FIRE & FLOW ARTS/POI SPINNING – 2 Workshops
TUES, NOV 2, 6:20pm & 8:00pm, $20 each
No fire during classes (Fire & Flow Arts/Poi Spinning) Poi Class, 2 sessions: 6:20 - 7:50 & 8:00 - 9:30 PM These sessions will be mixed level classes. Beginners will focus on the foundational movements and learn rudimentary poi skills and theory to introduce them to the practice of poi. Advanced beginners and beyond will learn new tricks, add to their flow and begin focusing on and/or improving their performance presence and personal style. Students should come prepared with their own poi -- practice poi are preferred for beginners. Instructions and websites for poi materials will be emailed. All skills and ages welcome. Students may attend either or both sessions. No fire will be used in workshop.
STAFF Workshop WED, NOV 3, 6:20, $20
Two sessions from 6:20 - 7:50 & 8:00 - 9:30 PM This class will be mixed level classes. Beginners will focus on the foundational movements and learn rudimentary staff skills and theory to introduce them to single and double staves. Advanced beginners and beyond will focus on double staff tricks and pattern to enhance the visual appeal of their spinning. Students should come prepared with their own staves. All skills and ages welcome. No fire will be used in workshop. Instructions and websites for poi materials will be emailed.
HOOP Workshop WED, NOV 3, 8:00pm, $20
This class will be mixed level classes. Whether you're new to modern fire hooping, hula hooped as a child, tried it once but couldn't keep the hoop up or have only just heard about it, this class is bound to have you smiling. Students will learn basic hooping and off the body and will be introduced to a series of tricks we will connect together into a sequence by the end of class. Students should come prepared with their own adult sized hula hoop (for adults, or child sized for children). All skills and ages welcome. No fire will be used in workshop.
FIRE/SPINNING JAM WED, Nov 3, 9:30-11:30pm
At the beginning of the fire jam (30-45min, depending on how many people participate), GlitterGirl and Comet will lead a fire safety lecture for artists interested in getting closer to the fire. Students who are new to these flow and fire arts may not feel comfortable lighting up with tools after just a few days time, but can have an opportunity to extinguish fire safely under the supervision of our professional fire dancers. Students wishing to extinguish the fire are required to dress in fire safe clothing. After students have extinguished the fire, they will have the opportunity to watch as GlitterGirl, Comet and any other fire dancers who bring their tools and fuel show off their skills and get down! Invite friends and family to enjoy this beautiful show.
