Its seriously depressing dude - but I'm not talking about poltics anymore, its useless. Sane people are drowning under the weight of stupid selfish short sighted people.

maybe im just feeling particularly cynical about politics after 'honest' john was re-elected? who knows. im sure ill manage to offend someone here. deal with it.



the average joe with a mortgage, wife, and kids, see's some young idealistic hippy queer [whos probably never watched footy] - who only has him/herself to support, protesting for god knows what. barracking for this massive revolutoin - thinking that the entire f*cking world is behind them - apart from the politicians.

bullcrap. the average joe doesnt want revolution. revolution and change equates to instability - and when youve got a family and house to support - you want stability, a stable job, a stable economy.

your taxi driver wants a viberant country where everyones happy to leave the house - thus generating cab-fares. the instability of revolution isnt going to put food on the table.

seeing some idealistic uni student - someone who either was smart enough or with rich enough parents - protesting about some issue that doesnt your everyday life - getting into a scuffle with the cops. the conservatism of these average joe's in reinforced, not challenged.

john howard guaranteed the stauchly unionistic tassie timber workers their jobs above the environment - what happened? howards offered more stabilty that Latham, and theres been a 2 seat swing to the liberals in tasmania.



activism doesnt seem to challenge the liberal capitalism anymore - it merely drives a reasonable portion of the population away from the left. if anything, activism has been capitalism inadvertant ally [is that a quote from somewhere?]

you want revolution? changing to the political landscape requires work. any idiot can walk down the main street shouting 'free the refuguees,' 'howard must go.' to change, there needs to be constructive, well thought out plans for solving the problems that consider the 'average joe' AND the refugee kids - but this plans has to appeal to the average joe who votes at the election.



even i see fresh faced uni first years signing up for 'the socialist workers party', full of students who dont work, still wearing there nike shoes mummy bought them, and i think how they really have no idea what they're on about.

thats generalising of course - but ive seen a healthy dose of hypocracy is all walks of life.

I think change must come, but the approach is flawed.

I agree with Dentrassi that fresh-faced uni students out there protesting just cos they can is unlikely to sway anyone with a mortgage.

But those with a mortgage still have a conscience and if approached in the right way - with a political representative that can offer social conscience policies balanced by a stable economy - perhaps the balance will start to shift. (Don't ask me how to balance the two, I'm no expert in the economy and it's balance with politics... but I am sure it is possible. Look to the NZ government - not perfect, but alot better than most).

Change begins with the idea to want something different, though, and just because those uni protests may not work, it doesn't mean they shouldn't be tried... if only to keep the issue fresh and in people's minds.

What did everyone do to support your local Green (or alternative) MP in Oz this election? Did you help out on the campaign trail? Encourage your friends to vote? Did you vote yourself?

You can only complain about the lack of change if you've done your utmost to make change happen.

Well, Howard must be doing something right for somebody, a whole heap of somebodies if the results are anything to go by.

It was the same with ole Mags; no-one would ever admit to voting for her yet somehow she kept getting back in.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

and shouting at them dosen't work !
So I find myself roughly where average joe is now, with a family, seeking stability and on the verge of a housing crisis ! Yet what I ask and seek is some inspiration, a bit of energy !
Lets start a new international non-political party perhaps!
lets all have a good chat to one of our neighbours !

personally I already vote green, live the best I can,go to rallys, talk to people, teach grumpy kids staff and anything else that i can think of that may be a help but somehow this almost seems like conceeding and waiting in hope for the change to maybe come if were lucky and avergae joe gets it soon !
And yeah there are a lot of nonce nike wearing gits around talkin the talk and all that but there are an equal amount of other people more interested in hyper loops, the next big rave and funny put downs! atleast the students are doing something, although possibly going about it the wrong way ?
come on you buggers lets rise up and smash our heads on the low ceiling !
and josh this is exactly the point ! no one can even be bothered to discuss it anymore, its far easier not too and let it all just go !

Family First said they would oppose (insert any legislation) if they couldn't see significant outcomes for families



Family First and the Coalition exchanged preferences before the election and I even heard the Liberals contributed to their election campaign, but if Labour also gave their preference to Family First, over the Greens, then they deserved to loose. I mean, what was Latham thinking???



I know Howard was thinking about all the legislation, he could railroad through both Houses, like the sale of Telstra and a changing the unfair dismissal laws, so they really become unfair to workers.



No wonder, Howard was so cocky before the election.
