Hmmm...I think as with all tricks, you might find it easier doing it with one poi first? I normally train myself with one hand at a time so I can pretty much do it subconsciously then try to put them together.

I also find that swinging clockwise with your right hand (and opposite direction for the other) is easier to make the poi go behind you than the opposite directions.

Just my suggestions, but good luck smile Always a great sense of satisfaction when a trick goes right for the first time ever, so enjoy it when you can! biggrin

dittoalso if you're right handed try learning it wit your left first and vice/versa. i find this better as it gets thhe hard bit out of the way first! but its up to you.
good luck!x

I'm totally confused.

Did he mean 'alternate' buttefly? As in split time?

If so, then I don't see how doing it with just one hand would help. It's a timing issue with both hands. If you know a regular butterfly but are trying to learn split time, then you already know how to do it with one hand, right?

Confused. confused

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

yes. no!

alternate butterfly has never meant split-time butterfly dude.

the cause of your confusion is your over-worked brain - now, slowly, put the crack pipe down and step away from the poi...

"alternating" does not mean "split time"

if a move is 'alternating' then it means that the poi stay on opposite sides of the body (like in reels, windmill etc)

alternating moves are usually split time, but not always.

a "mexican wave" is a good example of an "alternating butterfly".

Try looking for advice on the "mexican wave"

EDIT: doh! beaten by that pesky coleman again!

Oh yeah.

Right.

Damn.

I think I was thrown by the misspelling in the title of the thread. That generally throws me for a loop.

Reels... right. I forgot we used to call that alternating butterflies. smile

its not that i don't care - i've just never seen it happen.

to make it clearer, next time you post something serious, use the wink smiley to let us know your sarcasm has been temporarily suspended for that post...

I think I'll start misinforming everyone I teach as to the definition of all poi moves. Just to get back at Glass for being taller than me.

You're still upset about that? umm
