What can I say!?! I introduce myself, say I'm out there for help if anyone has questions, and you guys make fun of me? Why? I thought that this site was put here for us to come together although I've been shown sometimes otherwise. Perhaps I have put some of you staffers up to the challenge of challenging yourselves. I am secure, are you with what you know? Where did I come from? Well, let's just say the world is full of wonderful little surprises.

For all you people who would like to bash baton, or myself, feel free. None of this will affect me personally.

Below is an email I sent to Tanessa before this thread was begun, I think it is also a good reply for this thread

"

Hi Tanessa.

I admit to being a bit confused about most of your posts on HoP, in particular the following...

"I have been suffering bashings for sticking with my baton knowledge"

Firstly, I'd like you to point me to threads where you personally have been "bashed" or abused for sticking to baton knowledge. This is a genuine request, not a rhetorical question, as if people are being personally aggressive (rather than voicing their opinions about one of your posts), then I'll get on to them and let them know it's not acceptable for this Bulletin board.

Simply copying the ADDRESS bar contents and emailing it back is a good way for me to see those threads. Between myself and Pele, we sometimes can't go through every thread to help look out for people.

I'm also worried that you may be interpreting things either I or others on the board have said that aren't aggressive, as aggressive behaviour. If so I apologise for myself and the others but would like to help clarify these situations so there are less mis-understandings in the future.

I look forward to hearing from you...

Small things here and there. For one, maybe I mistook twisted humour wrong under the "twirling into the twilight". All that "enlighten us oh great one crap". I didn't put myself out there to be made fun of, but to be made available to you guys on the site for additional help from a different perspective (that of baton). Well, the help is here for those who want to continue their learning, as I am constantly still challenging myself with more difficult moves.
So, Mr. Inferno, thank-you for your concern.

I spoke to Stone on the weekend - we were confused yes, but agreed that no ill will was there! as for reading between the lines, I guess it's sometimes challenging to construe our ramblings, -> i guess emoticons will compensate for the lack of gesticulation
Your helpfulness is appreciated, o she who is Tanessa.

i seem to remember you making statements that baton was more complicated than staff, i think that might have irked some people to defense, i will admit it bothered me, and im sorry if i said anything nasty in return to you, although i dont beleive i did...

its best not to say anything the least bit disparaging about things that are such a main part of peoples lives here, it makes us nasty...

I was wondering if anyone could help, my ego massaging posts aren't quite up to scratch. Is there anyone out there that could teach me how to inject massive amounts of arrogant ego trips into my posts? I seem to be able to manage a liitle sarcasm though, is there a smooth transistion I wonder?

The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer-- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer.-- Ken Kesey

I think the bad reaction to Tanessa's posts comes from several aspects, or mainly two.

First, arrogance. People don't like arrogance, it upsets a lot of the mutual respect vibe that exists. And from what I see a lot of the people who spin are connected to more alternative mindsets which typically do not accept or appreciate an imposed hierarchy upon them, especially when it comes to their hobby. So someone coming along and pronouncing themselves the "Staff Master" is bound to cause upset. (Hang on! You competed against the 7-time world champ for 5 years in a row - but you didn't win, so they're the "Staff Master" not you!) And regardless of how good you may be anyone who says "I'm better than you" comes across as being an arrogant, egotistical, big headed idiot.

So a softer approach to helping other people out is probably best. When I step up to help someone out at a workshop I always ask if they wouldn't mind a couple of helping hints with a move and then if they want teach them from where there skills currently lie.

Also a large number of people on this site are just starting to spin. They're not pros, they're not looking to enter competitions against the world champ. The fire spinning community doesn't have many contests in it, and those that do experience resistance.

Just me thoughts. Draw your own conclusions from all that.

i truly hope the spinning community has very few competitions. the video one on hop here is more than a comp, its an exchange of new moves and stuff. its not a comp.

comps are evil i can tell you that very easily and they turn people into egos with pushy mums and arseholes for brains.

as you can tell i competed for a very long time

i think dom's point was harsh but true. i think everyone on this board got their hackles up the second ANYONE starts saying they are better. Its the same for anything, someone says they are better at their job than you. Maybe they are, but you wouldnt accept them waving it in ur face. I would never ever tell someone i felt i was better than them, thats what inner smugness is for

anyways, i hope this ends soon. i love baton spinning, i did it when i was five for a bit but i couldnt stand the teaching methods and feeling like i had to be good. i trust my own standards now

hey I am sure most of the replies werent meant to be nasty

Lets see a good entry into the COL4 competition and I am sure your skills will be noticed

Also I am not sure where you are located but try and make it along to one of the meetings, that way you can get to see some of the people that frequent HoP and find out that most of em are really nice friendly people and not the ogres you are making them out to be

I am sure there are probabbly people that you would be able to help with some moves that they are learning and you never know you might be able to pick up a few tips yourself, especially if you fancy trying any of the other disciplines
