Posted: A cage is just a wire construction of your choice wrapped around a rolled up towel. We buy 16-guage wire and cut it into two 10-inch strips and two 5-inch strips. Once the towel or wash cloth is rolled up into a cylinder, wrap the two shorter wires horizontally at two midpoints around the wick and twist the ends together with needle-nosed pliers then bend the pointy end back into the wick to prevent injury. Wrap the two longer strips in an X pattern vertically and twist the ends at the bottom. You now have a "wire cage" holding your wick together. The twisted ends can then be bent into a loop and attached to the clips or key ring on the end of your poi. Hope this helps!
Posted: I use the wire mesh. You can get it at home depo cheap. It is use on construction site before they spray the walls with the stuff walls are made of.It come in sheets of roll, so you'll need to trim it down. It will fall apat after a while, because when you change your wicks the bending of the wire causes it to weaken. Have fun!
