What did I do in there that you can't? Also, I forgot to do an orbital frown

It's not so much that you did anything I can't in that video, but your flowers certainly looked a lot better than mine did that many weeks after first spinning. Though I do know you can do a couple things I can't, so it'd be fun to see those when you get more comfortable with fire.

I still haven't managed to pull off an orbital with my chains. I can do them with colecord, but the chains slip strangely.

Really? with me I find it much easier with the chains because they like grab each other. I haven't screwed it up with chains once.
Edit: Now back on topic, how close am I to that nice middle speed that looks so good? Do I have to go faster or slower?

I would personally slow it down a little for the most part, but I would also add more variation in, too. But that's my taste; I like to distort rhythms.

EDIT: As for the orbitals, my chains like to grab each other, too, which makes for nice hyperloops, but when I try to do the little tug that normally makes an orbital go, they slip asymmetrically, one of the orbital's arms gets much shorter than the other, which means they spin wonky and tangle. I used to have the same problem with the colecord, though, so it might just be a matter of getting the feel for it again.

I think you did really well and much congratulations!!! I think you spin pretty fast, you might want to slow that down a little and work on moving your body and taking up the stage when you're more comfortable.

Awesome first burn though!

awsome Job, would have been improved soooo much if you had of lifted your head and smiled. Just by addressing the audience inproves the atmosphere a lot.

Like others said, slow it down and work on your transitions so everything smooths over.

Good control, just work on getting it all to flow.

Youve got me practicing my flowers again smile

Try using slim chain. 2mm chain from firemecca works good for orbitals.

Your first burn was nicely done. It look super clean! Alot cleaner then mine! I think when you build up some confidence around fire you will spin brillantly!

Hey, on the next burn that I did, the burn did not last nearly as long as I soaked it for just as long. Is there a reason for this? Does the temperature of the Kerosene when it's soaking mean anything because it was left in the freezing cold for a couple of days? Or does it just feel like half the length when you're doing it for pictures?
Sister: Not sure what's wrong, I just use HoP's Pro Series chains and it works fine, maybe it's just practice on hitting it in the middle.
Derek: Thank you, and I sure hope I do grin

Yeah, I don't exactly want to tell you that fire isn't scary, but... Fire really isn't that scary. tongue2 It should be treated with respect, and you should keep your cool if something seems to go wrong, but most fuels used for poi don't burn quite hot enough to sear you unless they get stuck right next to you.

Yeah, my chain is kind of chunky, but I like it that way. Also I live in a city where there are municipal requirements on how much weight my fire toys can take before breaking (though I forget if it's 200 or 300lbs).

I'm starting to get them a little, I just have to be more precise with my initial wrap.

As I think I mentioned in another thread, Seattle is kind of saturated with fire performers, some of which have not always behaved responsibly. The weight requirements (I have been informed) will probably not come up for a back yard spinner, but for anything where you need fire marshal approval (park performance, club venue) you need to have strong enough gear.

The 1st burn of a new pair of wicks always last the longest. And i think if you do let your heads cool down they do last longer.
