If any of you have ever had Krispy Kreme doughnuts before, you'll know that they are instantly addictive (we call them crack bread with icing). The company was started in the US in North Carolina and is spreading everywhere. The first store opened in Sydney in the suburb of Penrith so check em out if you get time and let me know what ya think. Personally, I think they are da bomb.

Fear the evil monkey!

One problem....

...the store is located at Penrith Panthers Leagues Club, home of the ubiquitous footy team. (Who my husband & children support with all their hearts, bless em!)

On principle, I can't go there, no matter how yummy those donuts are! Those Sydneysiders who have been there will understand........

There is a rumour that there is in fact a Krispy Kreme already in existence somewhere in Australia. The story goes like this:

The USA based firm tried to make a foray into Australia previously. They decided to set up one store in what they thought would be a major location, and from there build the chain. they chose badly, it was in fact in a small country town with a tiny population and not much through trade.

This may just be an urban myth, so I am curious to see if anyone knows the location of this mysterious store.

It was a day for screaming at inanimate objects.

What this calls for is a special mix of psychology and extreme violence...

Ah the infamous Krispy Kreme.*sigh*
I remember being up at my great aunts when the first shop opened its doors in OKC.There were so many people lining up to get a box many hours before it was to open.I like them, but I feel sorry for the smaller chains.I think my donut shops back home (Souther Maid and Daylight Donuts) made really yummy donuts.

I think Krispy Kreme is secretely adding an extra ingredient to make people drool oodles of saliva for them.
It's got to be a conspiracy!

I never understood the hype about KK. It is just a doughnut.

The sweetest most rot-your-teeth and give you a tummy ache doughnut you will ever have.

When they opened one here in San Antonio there was about a 2 hour wait the first week. They had to hire traffic police because of the disruption to the traffic. It would have been quicker to drive to one of the stores in Austin and bring them back.

Hey-they're opening a Krispy Kreme here in Corpus Christi Texas too!!! Never eaten there myself but I heard they are excellent. Unfortunately I don't like donuts so I wouldn't know.

Krispy Kreme's are nasty in my opinion. I must immune to the secret addictive ingredient, because I can't stand them.

I don't particularly like Dunkin Donuts that much either, but they're way better than Krispy Kreme.

A doughnut should be light a fluffy, with a delightful sugar glaze on the outside (or whatever you like on the outside of your doughnuts).

Krispy Kreme's are a thick concoction of sugar merely held together by small amounts of dough, then slathered messily with ridiculous amounts of sugar on the outside. I guess they're okay for what they are, but they aren't doughnuts IMO.

The only doughnuts i really like and flip out over are the ones you get at little trashy bakeries in suburbs where a big fat guy with a messy apron is in the back making them, and his soft spoken wife is up front running the register. They always know the regulars' names and the doughnuts are fantastic!! I'm still steaming mad that the one near my place got sold to an Asian couple (nothing against asians, the doughnuts just aren't half as good anymore at that shop).
