It's not easy to integrate into a routine, but given the chance I get a serious buzz out of the two-hand-four-poi fire corkscrew. It's the only thing I do with more than 2 poi, but it's irresistably wanton. I'll see if I can get some footage done.mikeyB

just practice doing the corkscrew motion with two poi in one had for awhile - you'll quickly find the wrist-twist you need. Until you do, you'll have very sore elbows! Plenty of twist makes the heads fly away from each other so it's similar in a way to a 1-hand butterfly but with more twist rather than up-and-down.What I did find surprising was just how simple adding the other hand in was. Oh, and how warm it gets when you have 4 fire-poi around you :-)mikeyB

is that to say 2 poi in each hand, the heads at the same place?

I smell something burning.

well sort of...they flail out at about a thirty degree angle from each other in the same plane that the two straps are, and sort of swing sideways a bit at different parts of the weave, but its basically the same feeing, you just have to keep your arms far far apart... impossible with poi with trails, hehe, too much tangling...you can do most of the basic moves with four, i have found, although butterfly tends to tangle the lines. Mex wave works just dandy...------------------Blackie

Oh btw I meant not very impressive technically, that is. I guess it looks okay... I've only been using poi since saturday though! smile Nobody has really watched me yet...I really chuffed, I just worked out the reverse weave not ten minutes ago. Wahey! Is there any way of stopping the btb weave from whacking into your knees? (or more painful spots... need a good sit down after those...)eck sorry for going off topic, btw...------------------Blackie

If you're going to try it, I'd put one set of loops round your index and middle fingers and the other around your pinkie and thumb, or alternatively your thumb and your index and your fourth and fifth, otherwise the heads do just stay in the same place and get tangled.

Its totally possible to do one handed stuff with a full 180 spread (looks like a staff) especially in the horizontal plane...in the vertical plane its harder, but still possible - you need a strong litlte finger tho...to keep the spread...technically, most low to mid difficulty double stave techniques should cross to four poi. I've never tried 4 poi tho - I had an aversive interaction with a total DICKHEAD who burned up my poi handles trying it, and so I think I'll stick to two poi, or double staves...double meteors would be ever cooler tho smile Josh

I'm all for 4 chains :P working on making another set of fire chains one that won't rip holes in my arm when I wrap with it. Them Fire fly's hurt! But when I get them together I'm gonna work alot on them. Pele does it alot is there anyway we could maybe get you to toss up some moves for it :P How do you convert a 1hd weave into a 1hd butterfly without letting go?------------------We are all in the cosmic movie. Yes!! Four poi is fun.... lots of fun. Especially when you are thinking that you have not experienced pain in a while and need something to remind you what it feels like (e.g. consecutive knocks in the head)I like how there is that little sag in momentum between the two of them before one starts to whip around faster than the other and you need to move em quick or else you're in for a burning tangle or that sound of clrrlrlrlrr (?) chains scraping on eachother. There is most certainly a technique ... although like most things, anyone could pick it up. (I suppose some need more practice than others?) And it is lovely and warm with four seperate burning poi spinning around you.. winter gets annoying and cold on the occasion. The patterns are very pretty, sporadic (?) almost random sometimes.

The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.- B.B.King

what i think looks realy cool ( i use glow sticks not fire ) but I can hook up to 3 stick at diffrent lenghts on each string. So there are three chasers that apear in three colors. or I super gloe two or three glow stick neckleses ( i cant spell ) together and you have huge glow circles that form. So when you do it from side to side and fron to back you disapear and reapear in the circles. or I get bungy cord string so the faster i spin the longer it gets, the slower i spin the smaller it gets catch my drift???? does any one use the little lazer on there poi??? I can do one butter fly in each handon my sides, im trying to bring my hands to gether so it make a sphere but have only done it a few times the get tied up fast. just some sugestions

hehe - I'd like the answer to that too Knagi..The only way I can think of, is to do a leg beat with one of the poi...tricky to get the timing right, and it would have to be exact or else the transition would fail... perhaps a wrist wrap would be easier...dunno.Josh

Ack, one hand weave into a one hand butterfly... if you're doing it slowly you can bring it out to the side then pull your hands down quickly while both the inner one is at the top of its swing to change the direction of the outer poi and get a butterfly, although it might be hard to stop them tangling.Perhaps you want to get the weave into a parallel forward swing, then into a butterfly?------------------"O! for a muse of fire, that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention." - William ShakespeareCheck out my Online Gallery!B l A c K i E
