All:The Zuni brand poi, manufactured by InfinityToys, I am pleased to report have improved greatly since falling out of favor here on HOP.A friend gets em wholesale and brought them for us all to buy from him. The later design looks the same as the old Zunis (same colors, same shape), but there is extra stitching around the bottom of the beanbag part and where the loop is sewn on on the top of the beanbag part.In addition to these improvements, they now come with two different kinds of handles, and you can attach the ones you prefer.I haven't had them long enough to really wear them out over time to ensure that they really last longer than the older, weaker design, but they do seem much stronger and I'm glad they made these improvements. The price is still the same, IIRC.So Malcolm if you get the chance, you might consider selling them again in the shop. Anybody else looking around for some commercial streamer poi should consider these.Best,-protie grin(Not affiliated with infinitytoys in any way, just a fan of their product.)

Extra stitching? how are the bean bags actually attached to the string.. cos I got some of the buzz poi which I love but the loop of cord that is sewn into the bean bag and connected to a metal clip has caused me grief.. as the cord on one of the first pair I got snapped after about 30 minutes.. Malcolm replaced them for me grin thank you.. but then a couple of weeks ago one of my new pair broke in exactly the same way frownI'm still trying to work out how best to fix them.. at the moment I'm thinking to use eyelets but haven't worked out the details..Tom

I have the Buzz poi as well, and I have had really great luck with them. My friend has a pair of Zuni's and they have fallen apart. He has only had them for a few months.. glad to see that they have improved. I like them because they are a bit heavier than the buzz poi.------------------I dreamt that I ate a 10 pound marshmellow and then when I woke up, my pillow was gone!

Um i naively thought that the moniker 'Zunni' poi was a reference to something really hippy and cool, but now that I know that it's a brand, a little bit of me is shattered. frown The point is that I like the word 'Moniker'. It sounds like an intern i once read about.

"Mr. Simpson, my eyes are burning."I have had the (get this) *same* pair of Zunis that I started out with almost 3 years ago! (That's when I bought them. I started spinning before that, just couldn't think of better verbage) With one exception, I traded one with the chick from Tantien so I could have alternating colors. Never had a problem, and they still get played with constantly, especially when I am trying something new. I want some of those buzz poi, though.------------------I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here.~~~Dance as if noone is watching!~~~PLUR(RE) ---J---

Tom, Zuni's and Buzz Poi use fishing swivels as their metal clips. You can purchase these in any dept store or outdoor sporting store fairly cheaply, many to a package and in different gauges, so you can buy heavier ones. I use my Buzz Poi regularly and really beat them up (they are the ones I test new moves on) and mine have held up beautifully.Unlike Buzz Poi, Zuni's do not come apart to wash, do not have tucking in tails (which if you stitch clear snaps onto the "bag" of the Buzz actually secure in nicely.) and are not made of as durable/heavy of a fabric. The choice of handles is nice for any toy, so it is very beneficial that Zuni is doing this. I really can't stand finger loops and am grateful when I can opt to not have them. However, it is not hard to switch handles.Protie, when I heard they had remade/redeveloped the Zuni a friend and I also got sets. They still do not hold up. The stitching came undone, as before. It just took a little longer. And long before that happened the loop attachment came undone. I hope this does not happen to yours as well. My friends set fell apart within a week of her using them everyday. There have been a few sets that ended up doing well, I hope yours are in that category.Much enjoyment to whichever choice you make!------------------Pele Higher, higher burning fire...making music like a choir...https://www.pyromorph.com

Its not the swivels that are the problem.. its the little bit of cord that snapped. I use them quite a lot and think they are great. I guess I'm just unlucky.

I got the new Zunis as well. I haven't even had the chance to test the strenghth of the new stiching..... because the new handles broke down on me! They are crap (the handles). Am switching to buzz poi, which i heard lots of good things about.

NYC, thanks sweetie though I know you're saying that cause you want a third pair and what do *I* get in return ??? yeah .. I know I get so much in return

Mark, I use different material for the tails :
kite material is good and resistant. nice colours too. Tip : instead of making a knot around the string (between the tennis ball and the knot of the string itself) make a hole in the kite tails and pass it through the string and THEN make the know on the string (is that any clear ?)
I also use VERY light and slightly transparent ribbons with great colours.
the longer the tail and the heavier the material => the slower the poi will be.

hope this is of any help
