Posted: Those poi that Kato, Jo and Noona use aren't shiny, per se, they're UV reactive. There's all sorts of materials you can get that react to UV and look lovely when spun...you will have to hunt around. Rip-stop (aka nylon aka kite material) is cheap, lightweight and very reactive.
Maybe someone know exactly what it was that they were spinning...?

Posted: Pleeease, no caps! Sorry, it's just a big pet peeve of mine.
You wouldn't want to spin full size disco balls, nor even appropriate sized ones made out of glass. But I have seen cheap plastic ones made to be rearview mirror ornaments available in dollar stores. However, I don't think the effect would be quite up to par, given the material, and you'd have to spin under two or three spotlights.
