Cowboy Bebop is always #1
I actually liked "Titan A.E."

Really, anything with massive spaceships exploding is my style of thing. I'm not so much into the kung-fu or robot types, although I did like "Ghost in the Shell."

Any recommendations for me?

I bought Ghost in the Shell (which I loooooove) the other day, and the cashier said she also really like Ninja Scroll...

probably not your thing if you don't like kung fu stuff, but she must have likened the two for a reason.

I want to rent it soon and I will let you know, though I don't doubt someone on here has seen it already.

I've sometimes seen my pants in manga, but only because the pages were sharp.(?)

To Mike, who asked for a recommendation, as well as the community at large....

ROBOTECH

I just bought the video game recently and it's like reliving my entire childhood, like a little kid at Christmas, like a first visit to Burning Man (I would imagine, anyway, until next year!), like... I dunno what it's like, but yeah, if you have EVER fantasized about driving a transforming fighter jet (I know y'all have) you should check this mofo out.

See also the Japanese series Macross, Macross Plus (an EXCELLENT movie) and if you can get your hands on it, Macross 7 (I've got the entire series on VCD if anyone would like copies PM me and we can discuss).

Can anyone tell I'm hooked?

Oh yeah, and outside of that vein, Ranma is quite excellent (especially as a way to introduce girls to anime!) as is Tenchi Muyo OAV Series ( ) and Rurouni Kenshin / Samurai X ( )

What hits the fan is not evenly distributed.

Oh yeah, and if you ever want SUCK anime... excluding Legend of the Overfiend ...

MD GEIST

Imagine Kurt Cobain strapping on spiked football gear and hunting down and murdering Stevie Wonder. Throw in horrendous dialogue. Now you've seen it, save your rental $$ for something decent.

What hits the fan is not evenly distributed.

yeah brody when you see too much anime, you start attendening otaku-anonymous clubs. Ninja scroll's followup, Ressurection was soooo unworhty imho.. and only 26 minutes of anime!! oh my prostate contracts with pain at the slightest mention of it!
for people with a life and girlfriends that exist outside a cartoon, a tiny primer:

anime comes as movies, mini series, 'OVA' (a miniseries condensed into a giant seamless presentation.)
you got cute kiddy stuph like sailer moon and pokemon, which often have 'sd' or super deformed huge cute heads.
the 'mature' stuff often includes a silly amount of destruction (utsukor-dodgy is a classic death-penis-tenticle anime) psychological drama (perfect blue)
Japanese accents are too cute (but it stil ain't irish ) all my bases are belonged to 'em
there is a LOT of 'fan service' - cleavage, exposed underwear (eg. Photon, episode 1). please don't ask, it makes the headaches come back :throbs:
the three most popular classic anime movies amongst otaku are arguably Akira, Ninja scroll, Ghost in the shell.
the most popular current anime movies amongst otaku are Avalon, Metropolis, Princess(Hime) Mononoke, Perfect Blue, Spriggan (striker)
often a manga with really bad plot has a background manga with amount 1000% as much story that just couldn't fit. Prime examples are Striker (the movie was simply the first chapter), Ghost in the shell (they didn't even use those cute tank robots in the movie at all!) Akira (the comics are about an inch thick!), and my favourite manga, princess Nausicaa. princess Nausicaa was Chibi studio's prototype for Mononoke, and the plot is the sweetest story - a lot of sacrifices and a huge saga, the story of a very pure soul, i love it to bits!
My favourite psychological drama has to be 'Serial Experiment: Lain' i had to watch it twice to understand it - it is basically what happens if you were the first God in the information age, i could almost swear that it has david lynch's touch!

Favorite anime?!
hmmm.....
Serial Experiments Lain is the best! Me and my friends sat at an anime convention for hours reading the subtitled version.... we also watched this thing called 'Pudingcess' if any of you have heard of it PLEASE tell me, so far we haven't found anyone who has even heard of it... maybe I just dreamed the whole thing
DBZ is fun to watch as well... except for when your friend suddenly calls it a violent soap opera...
Battle Angel is a good movie... I haven't really read any of the manga but the movie is so good!
Oh and even my anti-anime family likes Princess Mononoki.
I've read every manga I could get my hands on of Ranma... *sigh* unfortunatly the my only means of resources is the library.

.bender- "for people with a life and girlfriends that exist outside a cartoon" erm.... what if you are female? haha... I've been finding myself fitting in with more guys then girls lately.... But then most of the girls I know are complete ditzes so its kind of a given.

Ja ^.~

Ok, so you like DONT remember. I was here before, frolicking about with a bunny on my head and you said 'Let's dance' and I said 'Oook' and the next thing I know you are all FOOM with the fire and the evil and the killing... and what kind of person scares the poo out of a 10 year old girl anyways huh, HUH?!? ... ... ... I DON'T LIKE POO! *turns to bunny* AND SHUT UP!Ohhhh.... whats that sweet smell? It smells kind of like cookies... or death.... or them uhhhh death cookies!AHHHHH!!!!.... wait a minute... didn't I set you on fire and burry you in the backyard?

As with a lot of manga, it features tight suits, mecha combat, apocalyptic violence and heapings of action. There's plot in this one tho
It may or may not have fire poi.

Akira is a cult classic and Ninja scroll is an awesome movie.
Titan AE and Final Fantasy were also excellent but they're computer graphics as opposed to actual line drawings which are far better I think.

Fist of the North Star
Sword for Truth
The Crying Freeman

whats up with all the limitations?

YES, Love Hina is probably one of the best i've ever seen, which doesn't involve violence and gore
i love its funny yet romantic twists, in it.
Initial D is also a good anime, its very intersting if ya wanna get into cars.
but the ones i'm watching at the moment is Gundam Wing, the newer versions, but i still love the classics, like Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the shell, and the ones with teh good old Mecha's in them
