So at Burning Man this year I saw a toy I'd never seen before.

Basically, it was four staves joined together in a tetrahedron with a wick located at each vertex. The twirler held one of the sides of the tetrahedron and basically twirled it like a staff (but much more gingerly!) and the result was amazing.

Anyone else ever seen this toy?

Cole, my understanding is that a tetrahedron is one form of pyramid, because one may have a pyramid with as few sides as three and as many sides as you wish (although after 20 or 30 it starts looking like a cone...)

lol! *reading this for the first time it's kind of funny*

That sounds loverly.

I never heard of the Burning Man until I started looking into fire spinning - before Enchantress led me to you guys.

that sounds cool, a tetrahedron or whatever it is smile sounds spiffy. Was it an actual 3d shape? or was it 2d? - I can see a 5 pointed astric type thing being spun.

Perhaps the possiblities are endless?

In my defence though, I had totally forgoteen what a tetrahedron or a vertex was, so I had to look them up. Someone lazier would have just asked someone, so It was a pre emptive comment wink

I understand 'tetrahedreon' and 'triagonal pyramid'... but fail to see how it could be done with four staves.

Then again, he was at Burningman so it could be one staff, two halucinations and a flashback. wink

I couldn't work out how it could have been done with 4 thats why I suggested there should of been 6, but methane is a good alternative, though would be crzy to spin with

maybe we need to think INSIDE the box?

Instead of the sticks being the outside edges, perhaps they were in fact the inside, going from each corner and meeting in the middle of the pyramid.

If that makes any sense...

that makes complete sense john.

mainly cos its exactly what nyc just said - but he had the added advantage of a picture.

1000 words and all that wink

of course, we could just ask lightning what shape it was, seeing as he saw it and all...

Spoke to Crackhead Lightning. Turns out there WERE 6 staves so it is simply a triangular pyramid and not the methane molecule that I'd posted above.

What was that old gameshow that the celebrities would have to fill in the blanks and the contestants would guess what they were...? We can play now.

At Burningman, Doc Lightning had so much [Blank] he couldn't tell [Blank] from [Blank].

OK, I've thought of about 7... none appropriate to post.
