Sorry about posting a new topic, but this has been really annoying me for a while now.

I just learnt the outwards TTN, and this guy I met said that I could use that with the inwards TTN to do an impossible weave. He then proceeded to do some kind of amazing spinny thing before buggering off out of my life forever.

Is this what some people call the butterfly weave? And if it is, how do I do one.

Any help will earn my eternal respect and admiration

yyyyyyyeah I think it's the butterfly weave - at least that's what I think of it as.

i.e. split time ttn's switching side to side in wheel plane - with the arms making a 3bt weave motion

Yep impossible weave is a 3 beat butterfly with turns, it was named long before anyone i knew could do it wink when it was a seemingly impossible concept, but logicallay would work.

Butterfly Weave tends to cross back and forth in as few beats as possible

Impossible weave tends to add an extra bit of butterfly on each side.

It's not the move that's impossible, but the concept of 2 things travelling thru the same space at the same time. Of course you just bend the planes out a little so it can be done.

But Durbs, i'd like to see you do it with perfectly straight planes wink hence, it is still an impossible weave :P

"if you can do reverse and forward TTN you'll find the weave very easy. practice turning 180 degrees doing TTN, you go naturally from fw to rev TTN. the butterfly weave is just that, without actually turning around (in the same way a waistwrap is the same as turning 180 weave (fw into rev) without actually turning)

IE do forward TTN, turn your body 90degrees left, keeping poi in same place, same plane. then move your hands as if turning 180 degrees with the poi, so they move to reverse TTN to your left side, for one beat, then bring them back to original (right)side for 2. it feels very lop sided, as it's 2 clear beats one side, one the other. "

from the 'i jsut leant a new move' thread, but other explanations are easilly found searching for butterfly weave

The impossible weave = TTN Weave. The TTN weave is rather easy, but the main problem is spinning the poi with equivalent beats. I suggest studying the move using two firm sticks. Twigs even wink and just learn the concept

but of course there's a

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc beat version of the impossible weave, the 5 and 6 ain't so easy wink

the ttn (2 beat version) isn't too tough tho. I wouldn't say it's easy tho, takes a bit of a mental leap to comprehend how it works and which direction to spin each poi when you make the turn

I would say it has to be split time (unlike the animated gif up up there) for it to be a proper impossible weave...

Nope, I'm sure the gif is the 3 beat version. Watch each hand: each poi in the gif does 1 beat on the same side, and 2 beats on the opposite side. The hand motions are the same as the 3 beat weave.

I agree with Durbs, it should be split time. That's hard, normal same time isn't so difficult, once you wrap your head round it. Practising with clubs slowly REALLY helped me get the same time version, can't do split time yet..... rolleyes

ah yep that is 3 beat in time, should really look at it before saying what it is smile

Funny cos i only ever do the 3 beat split time

Either way, this is the fun one

spherculism poi tutorial ~ 5 beat butterfly with turns

Not sure if it's really 5 beat cos there's probably a few fakeys in there, but it's '2nd degree' nonetheless.
