Posted: So I've been doing staff for a long time... but not on fire. I tried to pick up poi, but my arms simply do NOT want to work with me...but staff is completely different for some reason. Anyway, I'm trying to find different videos of different style of throwers. I've checked out Sage's stuff...and it's amazing! I'd like to find similar...but "quicker" styles out there. By quicker I mean more upbeat. Thanks.

Posted: My video thread contains two staff vids which both have throws in them. You can find it [Old link]
Hope it helps
By the way, i recently started poi after a year of consistent staffwork and I've found it a bit cumbersome to learn too, so it's not just you However after persisting with poi I'm finding it easier, and I am certain that most poi spinners have gotten where they are today through persistence.
Posted: Okay, so if you spin it -not twirl-...it blows out flame!? crazy. Um....how hot DOES the aluminum get? I'm going to make a staff tonight or tomorrow....and I need to know what type of material to make the grip out of.

Posted: If you roll the staff between your hands without 'spinning off' your wicks prior to lighting, it creates a fire pillar-like effect. You can get very toasty from that and it's a nice show-starter, but something you'd want to work up to once you're confident with fire first
There are plenty of staff creation FAQ's on HoP which can be found by utilising the 'search' function.
I use tennis grip for my staves and secured by tennis grip tape.
Posted: Yeah I'm finding these FAQs...super useful. I'm really confident in fire...I"ve been spinning poi for a while (on fire)...and my technique just is NOT working...I guess I like spinning that big ol' stick more :P. Is there any other place besides HOP that has good faqs on tricks? I mean...I can spin staffs around my neck, down my leg...etc...but is there any other sources out there that I may be able to pick up stuff (besides asking about it here)? I'm really excited about making a firestaff tomorrow.
