there was an alternative national anthem in the Adelaide Advertiser today, I thought it was fitting:

Australians all let us rejoice
For we have killed our land
We're mining coal and Iron ore
While outback towns eat sand
Our biggest lake is one salt pan
our rivers all run dry
Turn off the tap and have no shower
The end of the world is nigh
Fair shake of the sauce bottle, mate
Advance Australia fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We eat our kangaroos
But all our great mega fauna
has been killed by all youse
Round up the brumbies, nearly dead
and and Tassie devils too
With Eyre Peninsula desal plant
Cuttlefish are in the poo
Fair shake of the sauce bottle, mate
Advance Australia fair.

whilst I dont agree with some of the lines, it holds more truth than our original.

Yeah, Brumbies are feral horses that destroy the habitat of a lot of native animals.

that was one line I had epic disagreement with, not only are they destructive but they are not almost dead, it is illegal to cull them and they are growing in numbers by a huge amount. I was walking through the Kosci NP late last year and the damage they do is incredible.

Im originally from Adelaide, I live in Bendigo but am back to SA for a bit of work and visiting my parents during Uni break.

Bendigo, ey? How incredibly exciting. *sarcasm sarcasm*
What on earth is on offer at uni in Bendigo that you can't do in Adelaide?

*thread derailment*

A degree in Outdoor Education, only offered at Latrobe Uni, Bendigo. It is the best course in Australia for OE.

while it seems that every girl over 14 is pregnant and in line at the centrelink office. Bendigo is alright a place for Outoor stuff, Grampians and Arapiles only 2 hours; 3 hours to Bulla and the snow as well as Mt Buffalo, an hour and a half to the murray, 3 hours from whitewater. The only thing that is missing is the beach. I miss the beach.

I finish the course at the end of this year and then Im moving to Wollangong, just south of Sydney.

What sort of jobs does outdoor ed give you?

I feel old too, most of the people in my year level are fresh out of high school. their youthful enthusiasm is sickening.

I worked as a program coordinator and manager before Uni, writing and running school camp programs. I also dabbled in corporate training. I was also an instructor in charge and group leader for tours and outdoor trips. I helped run trips to Nepal and Thailand, and more local tours.

I assume my degree will allow me to do the same, though to be honest its just an expensive piece of paper, standing alone with my degree I wouldnt get my old job back.

Its more a course in expanding your knowledge in, and it also offers the opportunity for you to gain experience in the practical side of stuff and to help you get your specific quals, like rock climbing instructor or white water guide, etc.

Livin' it up in brisvegas (H)

I hate stradbroke island though. It stops the sand from coming up. If it wasnt there, we would have sandy beaches like the gold coast and be almost as big as melbourne and sydney >_<
