So, I had to do a culture project recently, but at the last minute I could not find much information on the culture that I wanted to do. Well, instead, I thought of New Zealand and came across the Maori. I later found out about all sorts of dances, but was struck awe at the poi dances. Boy~eee! I accidentally pressed on a fire poi video on youtube and I saw how gorgeous that was... I really want to learn poi now. Here I am! Miss newbie but to the poi newbness I am! Course, I'm not jumping into the fire stuff for a long time... those poi balls look fun and maybe some day I'll get into flags, lights, etc. smile

Yay, I came across it in an exchange program to Germany, my exchange student did it for us. I'm 16 and a Junior in Michigan.

I actually started with fire in 3 months and did pretty good. It's scary though when you first do it.

And trust me, you'll probably learn pretty fast once you get the basics. And lights are so much fun, you should get them soon grin

Also, if you came across poi like that, then you're probably like me and in an area where it is pretty much unknown. I searched and found about 4 or 5 people within an hour drive of me, none even near my age frown

The only luck is bad luck.

Shut up before I stall my poi up your ass grin

how do you practice the the wing speed of the unladen swallow?

I need to learn that trick.

until you get poi, you could always make your own sock poi, or just staple tennis balls to squirrels ears and just fling those around.

And welcome.
Also how is imagination a hobby?

holy crap!

Astons right. dont staple tennis balls to their ears, it will only make them angry. And you might not like them when they are angry.

Ascilith: Yes I am and proud of it! Haha.

But on the sock topic any sports store should have them. That's where I got mine and they work pretty well. If they're too expensive try a second-hand store or something along those lines. =)
