Posted: Hi! I am very new to spinning. I make flags, streamers & dance costumes. I was researching how to make swing flags & that is when I came across flag poi. I never heard of poi so I got curious & researched & I immediately fell in love! I recently purchased my first poi, which I chose tail poi since I am normally a streamer dancer. I love spinning but I still need ALOT of practice learning tricks. I am VERY open to advice anyone may have for me. I do know there can be health risks if you're not careful & my shoulder hurts alot. So if anyone has any advice/comments please reply!^^ A few questions I do have so far right now is: 1. I am right-handed & I tend to use my right alot more so how do I get more use to my left. I am so used to using my right ( I also have this tendency with streamers too.) 2. How often should I practice & I need tips to reduce injury & soreness. 3.I don't learn things easily so what's the easiest tricks to learn first?

Posted: Speaking as a trades person, I have to say that if it hurts, it's most likely a good time to stop for a short break if nothing else. Your body knows pain for a reason. Remember that when you're tired, your performance will only become sloppier. When you practice sloppy, you pick up bad habits. As for injury, I can't say, but personally, with rope dart, I practice until I get a bit of an "exercise burn" and then sit down for a bit. Everybody's different.
