Funny something that Charles mentioned in my thread in Staff Tech about needing more fire...

So why do you do these arts... Is it just for the fire?!

I have always thought it wasnt just about the fire or the body or even the toys its about that place.

I find that place in many parts of my life. And these 'arts' these things that I do have taught me much about that place that feeling I find...

Do others feel its about fire for them?

I think "that place" your refering to is commonly called the zone.

All I have to say is fire.... I like fire

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird, now the world is weird and they take prozac to make it normal again.

i reckon that the more fire, the deeper into the "zone" you can take yourself. ofcourse thats not always the case. this journey can be done with no flame whatsoever, but with more fire, you are able to go deeper into the zone..
zones are good. i like zones.

I do it for the love of the art form and the empowerment.I could care less about the fire.

Though there isn't anything wrong with a little pyromania every now and again.

I originanlly got into circus stuf because a, my physics teacher ran a after school juggling club, a band (the ozrics) moved to my village and one of their lot started a juggling club and c, my dad had a crush on the woman who owned the juggling shop in town and so bought me some juggling balls and stuf.
All of these things ended and I took up skateboarding for my latter teens. When I moved into a house in London I met my good friend Jon who had a devilstick and I got into it again. It was so much fun at the start when your just trying to keep it up and me and ben would get frantic jumping about and skiving everything else to devilstick all day.
I like it not for the fire although I love fire as well but maybee for the flow I used to really dig the drome aswell pixie thats when I got into the whole music juggling buzz its good for friends (except I wonder how much I piss people off when they allways have to talk to me through a cascade of balls at the moment!!)um it stops me being to bored and can make you a penny from time to time. dunno really

The reason I love such things is firstly I love dancing.

Secondly I'm addicting to improving. I love it when I can do things I couldn't do a week ago. It's very satisfying.

Thirdly it's something beautifull in my life. Something that's good, right, fun, healthy, tis like eating vegetables but I enjoy it.

I live in a world of infinite possibilities.

Frost (Bringer of bad puns): wassup... love your name...

Just want to clarify here that there is a reason why I reffered to what you call the zone as 'that place.' I dont really like to think of it as a zone. Personal reasons really. Many people call it many things in many different languages, locations, and disciplines.

I try to live my life there so if I where to call it a zone then I would not be conciously living in the world. (you with me?) I would then always be in the zone which I dont think is the same 'place' I was reffering to...

One thing that Sarah said about it taking you deeper into the zone... I dont really agree. I have been playing with contact juggling for about six months and I have reached far deeper places, points, and moments with it in six months than I could have ever dreamed of when I was doing poi for that long.

Jim: do you know any of the juggling crew from goldsmiths... They used to hang and juggle loads at the drome...

Kyrian: why thanks?!

No-one has yet defined what "do it" actually means.

I love the buzz of the fire, although lately it's been harder to get that buzz.

I love the buzz of getting a new trick

I love the buzz of jamming with other staffers/jugglers/unicylists/balloonists.

I love the buzz of seeing someone do stuff that I never thought possible (IE glass!)

I do it for any combination of these buzzes, and anything else I'v forgotten to mention...

But then I shall rephase my question... Charles has posted a great word: buzz...

So do you spin fire for the buzz?
Do you spin for the buzz (w/ or without fire)?

Why spin at all?

love and hugs

i started spinning for different reasons than i do now.
i dont like fire much at all these days as i did back then.

i spin for relaxation, to discover newer things with my body and mind that i never thought possible, a rush at discovering a new move or getting a new move down that i have been working on. for social gatherings and discussions, to be with friends, to teach others the knowledge i have found in my time spinning. to better my health, physically and mentally, increase my uderstanding of these arts and how to do them and describe them.
and finally because i love doing it.

fire doesnt come in to it for me.

Hello
FieryFlow had a thread along these lines a while ago, commenting on fire obsession. Might be worth trying to search for.

For me it's not all about fire. Sure, I enjoy spinning with fire as it's a nice feel, but it is a minor aspect and I don't actually spin fire that often these days. I'm travelling and I have 3 sets of poi with me, and none of them are fire poi. I tend to have more fun and interesting spins when playing with my sock poi as I know I can happily tangle up and hit myself. Also fire tends to attract attention, which often limits how I spin.

i like it when you twirl and it almost feels like theres just u and the fire- bcos depending on how you spin (i like to keep an eye on what im doin and where my flame is goin and what its doin)

the fire disconnects you from the outside world. and if you're like me and watch the fire- all you see is the fire... nuffin else... so it makes me more in the zooone cos i feel like its jus me and the flame and the night sky.

but as for the buzz.... whole different story! the most simple buzz i can get is from just lighting up my wicks, and doin that 1st trick. thats what starts it all off!

(hope this made sence- cos im really tired )

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go. It don't seem fair. Today just disappeared.

There definitly is a ZONE!!
I think the Fire and the Sound Creates the Zone!!

It is an Intence meditation!!!
The feeling afterward is u-foric. I can hardly Talk!! (let alone walk around and meet people.)

I love the Fire!!

I Love the intencity, and the flow of Fire. I can see the flow in Water also. Its like a wave or circle!!
(like everything)

Fire is not like Glow sticks, It's co-existing with a living thing.

FIRE IS ALIVE!
IT LIVES AND BREATHS!
IT CONSUMES, AND DISTROYS!
BUT WE CONTROL IT,
AND DANCE WITH FIRE!!

Drome, in answer to your latest question...

I actually got my first buzz playing a round with an unlit staff, and not ever having seen firestaff before.

I practiced for a few weeks and then lit up. That night was intense! That got me hooked for the next year or so on just the merits of that night.

Then I started busking, and the fire and the attention blew me away...After then, people started offering to pay me to perform.

Since then, I do alternately for the buzz, for the crowd, and for the money.

If I'm lucky, I get all three sometimes!!!!
