Guess who´s proud owner of an absolutely flat concentrate contact staff?
Well, the question is of course rhetorical, but I'll answer it anyway: Me!!! 
Got it two days ago, after exchanging loads of mails with the guys in Melbourne and it's great! Flat, flexible, nice balance, huge wicks. Strongly recommended.
I did pay for it, so I'm not bribed, just a very happy staffer. I've waited ages for it, and broken two wooden staffs in the meantime, it's like christmas! I'm in

I don't get it...
The existance of flamethrowers says that someone, somewhere, at sometime said "I need to set that thing on fire, but it's too far away."

What are the advantages of a flat staff? I would think flat would be harder?

I've tried that... It certainly aint easy...
The existance of flamethrowers says that someone, somewhere, at sometime said "I need to set that thing on fire, but it's too far away."

do you mean flat 'innercore' or flat 'one piece' staves? if it's the former, fantastic!! if it's the latter, then sweet, they are my favourite doubles.

Some clarifications needed, obviously. No, it's not a plank, but an innercore without the contoured handle, hence 'flat'. Smooth might be a better word for it? You know, even thickness, from one wick to the other.

spinning with a plank is muchos fun. But you can't do steves, which is a bit annoying.

Trying also hurts alot... But I can't do steves very well anyway...

I don't get how a flat innercore is going to help...
the pronounced contours can obstruct the roll of a contact move.
contact movements typically involve the staff sliding at angles.

From what i gather (and reading the other thread) it sounds like the grip itself is flush with the staff...
but how's that different from having a smooth uncontoured grip that spans almost the entire staff (of course leaving some space so that nothing burns)? since all you need is your working/playing area of the staff to be smooth (or so it seems to me).
I'm a noob, so please pardon my questions.

that's ok my friend.
the courage to ask is often rewarded (unless scientology is involved)
there perhaps is a misunderstanding, the new concentrate handle only spans a few centimetres. if you like to keep the hairs on your hands, it's perhaps wiser not to stray to close to each end of the staff.
