In connection with the CIA flights taking prisoners through Europe, and especially with the question of how much the old German government did or did not know:

Khaled el-Masri, a German citizen, claims to have been taken prisoner on a holiday in 2004, beaten, blindfolded, brought to Afghanistan, put into prison and threatened, and that people tried to make him admit he was al-Qaida. He was released 5 months later, without charge or explanation.

When Condoleezza Rice visited Germany this week, chancellor Merkel tried to talk to her about it. While Merkel interprets the results as Rice having admitted "having made a mistake", US officials claims she has admitted no such thing.

Merkel might now be called as a witness in the case of el-Masri, who has sued the US, since her comment has to be taken as an admission on part of the US to having taken a man prisoner and torturing him.

If Merkel has just said this to make Germans feel better about the "friendship with America", she might destroy el-Masri's chances of winning his case. I hope she hasn't...

Here are two articles on el-Masri and his story. I think he's sued this week, so we'll see what's happening.

Damn, and the evidence for the English and American government war crimes mounts up and up.

When are people going to care? frown

After much consideration, I find that the view is worth the asphyxiation.

I may disagree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

I think we can (almost) be happy about the Iraq war, since finally things are coming to the surface that otherwise everyone would've continued to close their eyes on, like this:

A Guantanamo-style prison in Kosovo, that has been known to exist for years, but noone really bothered until now...

hmmmm... maybe the wrong way to phrase it...

how about "even something that unnecessary, horrible, bad and evil can bring along positive side effects"? you know what I mean anyways...
