I thought it started it out with the rise of feminism and the brutal discovery quite recently that women were human beings as well. The only way to keep making fun of them without the risk of being branded a mysoginist was then to report jokes on a smaller segment with a strong sexual connotation to symbolize the whole gender.
Marketing geniuses then found blondes also held a certain 'innocence' value in the mind of consumers, and decided to make of them the ambassadors of women in their adverts, effectively designing a bashing-doll to everyone else.

As a former natural blonde (dyed it brown for a change) I am offended by blonde jokes. If it was a black/irish/race joke everyone would go mad but why is it that blonde jokes are still widely accepted?
